  • Watch: This life isn’t truly fulfilling – Scheffler

World No 1 Scottie Scheffler struck a reflective tone ahead of the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Despite 21 career wins, including Olympic gold, the American golfer said tournament victories often offer only fleeting satisfaction.

“This life isn’t truly fulfilling,” Scheffler said. “There’s a sense of accomplishment, sure, but not in the deepest parts of your heart.

“A lot of people reach the top – world No 1, Major wins – and still find themselves asking, ‘What’s the point?’ That’s something I struggle with every day.”

Scheffler added that, if anything, he’d find greater fulfilment in being a great father than a great golfer.
