Grant Forrest triumphed on home soil to win the Nexo Championship by four shots in Aberdeen on Sunday.

It was the second time the 32-year-old Scot had lifted a professional title in front of his own fans, coming almost four years to the day since his maiden DP World Tour victory at St Andrews.

Forrest held a three-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round and stayed in control despite windy conditions on the Trump International Golf Links.

His advantage was briefly cut to two after Todd Clements birdied the 1st, but when Forrest birdied the 4th and Clements carded a triple-bogey eight there, the Scot led by five.

The world No 294 double-bogeyed the last, but by then had added two more birdies and a bogey in a closing 72 to finish on eight under par.

England’s Joe Dean parred the last to take outright second at four under, with compatriot John Parry, Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan and Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen tie-third on three under.

South Africa’s Richard Sterne closed with four birdies and four bogeys to share 10th place, while Justin Harding and Casey Jarvis finished tie-13th on one-under 71 and four-under 68 respectively.
